She was very beautiful in her day. In fact the whole family are attractive...........except for poor Charles who seems to have bumped into the ugly stick.

The Queen is even today better looking than those ugly coins. At 85 years old she has certainly aged but these coins don't even look like her. I can't believe she approved the way she is depicted.

RealMetal. If everyone had the money of the royal family we'd all be a lot better looking except me Sorry but I really don't get what all the fuss is about over a bunch of leaches and parasites that only ever look after them selves and really shouldn't be there any way And if they make charles king it is even more of a joke

To me the current Canadian effigy is horrible. not b/c HM is ugly, but b/c it reminds me of "anybody's" grandmother. I always thought a queen should look regal on coins. In fact their present effigy on normal circulating coins is one of the main reasons I dropped collecting them in recent years! When you turn the page in your album, all you see is an elderly lady like you could go to the mall and see. A crown on HM would definitely have been an improvement. And, BTW, I always was surprised when comparing Commonwealth coins with coins from other countries b/c their monarchs since the early 1900's, for the most part, have been more aesthetically appealing in their effigies than a lot of other monarchs/coins - case in point:

Most portraits of the Queen are unflattering. She looks much better on TV than on coins. There are a few portraits of HM on notes that look good. Sadly, none of them are the Australian ones. I think the Mints - all of them - ought to try harder to get something that does her justice. Regarding "the record" - Queen Victoria used a couple of portraits simultaneously, but they were essentially the same image of her profile, from 1837 to 1887, when it was overtaken by her "Jubilee" Head. Apparently, she didn't like that, so a few years later, it was overtaken by the "Old" or "Veiled" Head.

Apparently, she didn't object to the Jubilee design herself, but it was widely unpopular with he public (who had, afterall, not seen a new portrait introduced on silver coins since the "gothic" on the 1850 florin) and the press, which derided it as depicting the queen "scowling" in a "silly hat".
