Hi all.....hope you have a happy 2012:) and I'm hoping someone can tell me what has happened with this coin. It does appear to be a bit oily looking in parts but there is a patch below the queens hair and then on the other side of her (top of head) there is quite a large area which appears to be metal flow , but it contains some yellowy substance? I thought the part below her hair looked a bit like a platypus bill....also under that you can see some oily like flow from the 'cut' Edited by larena 01/01/2012 06:04 am

I hope I am wrong but is it a bit of superglue stuck to the coin?

Superglue was my first impression, too.

Superglue is what I reckon too.

Nope....its definitely not superglue...its all metal ...no edges to 'pick off'...it's definitely something to do with the manufacture and the lettering in places is embedded.

Sorry Larena but definatly a glue of somekind araldite , tarzans grip ect. The white patches in it are air trapped between the coin and the glue, Check the bit in the hair above the neck. Thesee glues are transparrent and set verry hard. Test it by putting it over a cigarette lighter for a few seconds. If it is glue it will bubble

If you really look closely you will see bag marks and circulation scratches all over this coin. EXCEPT in the area of the anomaly. Which in my opinion has been added after mint, glue or whatever it is did not come from the mint or it would bear the same amount of damage as the rest of the coin. definatly PMDollop

Well , the saga continues....the black bits actually cleaned off quite easily..there are hollows to those shapes on the coin.... do you think I could hit it with acetone?

i dip all my coins in acetone to remove grease and oils etc. I'm just not sure, the gloss could only come fom some sort of glue, or lacquer, but I guess it could be a flawed blank that got through somehow. but I would go with its something strange.
