I just bought this tripod on ebay for around 5.00 and it works just right for holding the camera steady for macro pics. This is not too shabby for point and shoot camera eh?

That is very impressive photography. It would be interesting to see how well it takes a close up, like the date or mintmark or other coins, with a magnifier or loupe.

Also, if you can post the brand names/models of your equipment, that would be helpful, including the lamp you use.

The camera is just a Sony S700 with 7.2 MP but I love it for it's ease of use. The LED lamp has no name on it. My brother who lives in Las Vegas gave it to me when he came to visit over Thanksgiving and it was perfect for taking pictures of coins. I have yet to attempt to use one of my loupes with it for even a better a close up but will give it a try soon.

The camera just can't cut it for real close ups but it is sufficient for taking a decent picture of a coin for posting for general conversation or for selling on ebay. Works for me.
Cheers

That little tripod is great for the camera you have, did you try taking pictures in the dark to see how the flash lights up the coin?
