This coin was stabbed by PCI. I had to bust it out to put in my album.

I say MS62, no telling where PCI had it, probably much higher.

Poor coin, why did PCI have to go and stab it? I would call it MS-63BN, clean fields with no major hits but limited by a minor reverse rim bruise

Some conservative grades so far, I see some nice luster under the brown and virtually hit-free surfaces.
MS-64/65BN

Gorgeous. I don't see a whole lot keeping it from 65BN; can anyone point out to me the marks which require a lower grade?

The ONLY negative I see this the very light reverse rim hit at 5 o'clock on the reverse. However, I don't think that's bad enough to warrant a 7-8 pt grade deduction.

I should also add that the non-VDB 1909's are WAY WAY WAY under-valued. I can find VDB's in every grade all day long but the plain 1909's are VERY elusive in high MS grades.....regardless of mintage. I rarely see them offered for sale and the price differential from the VDB is completely obsurd IMO. If any thing, they should be priced HIGHER than a VDB because they are indeed scarce.

This coin does have amazing luster. photos dont capture it very well. the hit on the 5 o'clock rim is the only thing I noticed on the coin. it has a full beard any everything looking at it under a loupe makes my jaw drop. How can I determine if the hit is actually a hit or a chipped at the mint. I am just wondering because it looks oval.
Thad,
I was actually reading about something like that a few weeks back. for sell was a 1919-S pretty common coin but it was a very very high grade. dont remember exactly what it was but it ended up bringing a bunch of money because how rare it is to find one in the grade in which its was in.
I'm glad I got this coin when I did.

I didn't put my reasoning Obverse: Scratch in front of the beard above the date White fuzziness on 9 of the date and down the back bother me. I'd like a stronger strike. Reverse: That fuzziness that's on the front is even more pronounced on the reverse. I don't know what it is. If it's glare from the light source then I'll up my grade by a point and a half. Rim Ding at 5'
I don't think I'd have any problem with this being a 64 looking at it a second time, but I just can't see 65. I know I'm not supposed to take die state into account, but I have trouble giving 65s and up to anything but STRONGly struck coins. I might be asking too much but I almost want to see individual hairs on his head.
Regardless, this one is a beauty.

the "fuzziness" is from the lighting. sometimes I can get it right other times not so much. I'm not sure if this is also caused by the lighting but I could see the details in the beard when looking at this coin. I will have to look if thats a mark under the beard. it might be dog hair. (getting new siding on our house so all the dogs have been cooped up inside). I will see if I can change the lighting and get a new picture depends on how much time I have tonight.

Nice one! Only thing I see is a mark at 8 o'clock next to the rim on the obverse, and the rim hit on the rev... Other than that I dont see anything! 65BN
