It looks like they are Masters club pre order for now so I guess they will be widely available in a couple of days.

@ qbvbsite, I heard time and time again that "regular" people can also pre-order the coins. They just need to order by phone instead of online.

$225 for the Proof Set !?! That's almost double last year's price! (even if they are all fine silver, still amazingly overpriced).

@ canadian_coins, I know! I was going to get one but not at that price. Its just ~60g of silver afterall. I mean, the silver penny with pink leaves is very cute but soooo overpriced! $ 150 is my top price for that set. Maybe the RCM won't sell enough and offer a discount 6 months later? If not well, no set for me.

That's almost double last year's price! . I totally agree that this set is slightly over priced but worse, the mintage at 20,000 is too high. On the bright side, it's silver and therefore tax exempt. . By comparison, the 2011 special edition proof set was priced at $180 (plus tax) and was not pure silver. It sold out quickly and now sells for a significant premium though the mintage was only 6,000. Worthy of note, there is a regular proof set coming in the spring priced at $99.95 and it has a 99.99 silver dollar with the other coins being solid alloy. So that proof set is actually cheaper than the $115 2011 regular proof set, though not of the same metal composition.

They are scrapping silver with exception to the Silver Dollar now?

Seems to be a classic type of proof set

To be honest, I find this lower priced version to be more in the keeping of tradition. As far as I know it's all but impossible to strike up sharp proofs of the steel core coins that are currently circulating but pure nickel is very acceptable.
I never did like the silver nickel.
Proofs look better in nickel than silver... jmho.

Regardless... I'll probably end up buying both.

Off-topic, but I would want coins to show the Great Canadian Shield, the Rocky Mountains/Banff, Algonquin Park, or a Newfoundland portrait (please no praries!). I hope someone from the RCM is reading this. Enough cartoony animals! That bluenose coin is alright-looking. As for a Laura Secord coin, it would be graded by ICCS as Mint State, of course. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

@ SilverBug, the Masterclub announcement for this coin was made on Sept 27, 2011. The coin went live around two weeks later. http://www.mint.ca/store/buy/gold_coins-cat120004The coin is listed, bottom right corner. All that being said, at a price of 12,274.95, I am a little short. If somebody can give me the $ 12,000, I can handle the $ 274.95 on my own.
