Hi Folks,

I recently found this coin and after a bit of googling have found out that it looks like a roman denarius. Now my research has shown that this is one of the most commonly faked roman coins and I was hoping somebody could help me verify that it is a fake or if I have stumbled on something genuine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David

Unfortunately, the little "WRL" stamp on the reverse (clearly visible at 11 0'clock in the second pic) indicates that this coin is indeed a fake, made by Westair Reproductions Limited, a British mass-producer of replicas. You can find WRL replicas in museums and tourist traps all over Britain. My dad brought me back several on his visits to Britain, and I think I have a Caesar denarius exactly like it around here somewhere.
