This is a 1939 LWC. I believe this looks like MD, but since I have never actually came across one I need to make sure. If it is then I will 2x2 it for future reference.

FLat shelf like = Machine doubled.

You might find Machine Doubling on the reverse as well.

At first I thought you were talking about a Mercury dime.

I've heard of it called Machine Strike more than Doubling.

Machine Strike is a shearing when the die hits the planchet and the die moves ever so slightly from not having the die bolted down tight enough.

Doubled Dies have a smooth edge to it, since the doubling is on the die.
