Hi All I have obtained some old circa 1950's Library of Coins and Waite Raymond albums in excellent condition, with the possibility of getting more. My brilliant (?) idea is to obtain sheets of mylar material and replace the vinyl/plastic slides in these albums and use them for some of my circulated sets, since they are just so neat as a display. So, my question is, does anyone know of a source for sheets (8x11 or ?) of mylar material which I could use to cut out new slides to refurbish these old albums? Dennis

I would bet that any office store would have them. Try Office Depot.

Dansco album slides are made from acetate. This is what you will want to look for in a sheet form(basically overhead projector sheets or transparency copies): http://www.dickblick.com/zz555/01/

Does anyone know how to make your own custom make display? The only thing I see so far is probably taking several cupboards and a compass cutter and manually cutting them by yourself.

I guess I am to late. I was going to suggest just buying some of those blank sheets at Office Depot or Office Max to cover pages. I think they are just called page protectors. Each one is like having two sheets and then you could cut them to any size you want. Or if you wanted to spend a lot of money just go to the Whitman web site. Now don't forget some of these really old albums are made with glues and cardboard that has chemicals in them that are really not helpful to coins over a long period of time. I would suggest you just put the coins in a modern Dansco, Whitman or other more modern album and keep the old ones as a momento of the past.

but then again a few years in a wayte ramond album can turn your collection into an investment because they can have the vibrant colors that all the dead heads are looking for today. I call the dead heads not as an insult or anything it just reminds me of the colors from a laser show that one may find at a grateful dead concert

fastford1 - you must show me those photos as quick as you can. You cannot imagine how long I have been looking for custom made casing but most of them are ridiciously overpriced.

Hi gxseries, sorry for the delay in responding, I've been tied up with the death of a friend this week. I'll get some photos up as soon as possible, I will take this on as an exercise in learning how to post photos...You will, I think, be impressed with how easy it is to make these cases, with a minimum of shop equipment, as well. All the Best, Dennis
