I came across this listing scouring the internet, researching prices and grades for an 1878 Morgan dollar with 7 TF's. And this listing bothered me enough to post it, E Bay Fake or NotThe holder is looking really funny, I'm not seeing any reverse image of PCGS Seal / Hologram, because he wrote a description over it. That says to me, somethings wrong with the hologram. And he doesn't want people seeing it. Am I being to cautious here, or did I sniff one out. If I were home I'd pop out a holder to compare it to. Not seeing any portion of the hologram is really bothering me. Thanks for your help.

Well to be honest I wouldn't touch it because he blocked of the seal with a personal description. If he wanted to add the description without hiding anything he could have took a picture of it alone.

I can't view ebay from this location so I can't offer my impression. A way to disqualify it is to plug the cert. number into the PCGS cert. lookup: http://www.pcgs.com/cert/ If it doesn't return a coin or the description doesn't match, it's a sure counterfeit slab. If it does match, that IS NOT a guarantee that what you're seeing is the real PCGS slab.

Uh, what makes you think this seller sells fake coins? Three people complained out of thousands of transactions and you can't determine that the negative feedbacks were fair or not. He has a fair return policy and the price being offered is fair for the coin. Teletrade covers the back of their coins with their own logo sticker, I'm sure real coin stores put information on the back all the time to help them sell the coin to walk in customers. if you are that skiddish about buying a common morgan from a seller with this type of reputation, then maybe you should stick to buying coins in person.

Yeah I agree with cc I dont see anything amiss about the coin or the holder. He has sold over 8,000 items and has a good feedback rating to boot.
Also this is a common date Morgan in a low MS grade. I dont see the financial gain here for someone to try and counterfeit this coin and holder.
If this were a coin I wanted I would not hesitate to put a bid in.

it looks real to me. I have a PCGS MS-63 1878 7TF Morgan on ebay right now as well and the bid is about half of what that one is right now. Mine is a VAM-83 but not listed on the label and not even mentioned in the ebay ad, figured I would let the people in the know cherry pick it. But it looks like a real 1878 7TF Morgan to me, and believe me I have seen quite a few of this date

Seeing his numbers does leave me with a better feeling, I should of doubled checked that like I normally do. I just don't see why anyone would cover such a important part of the slab. Its the first time I've seen someone do this during the sale, Heritage also puts they're sticker on the back, but only after the sale. When the coin is listed it shows the hologram. Descriptions can be written anywhere? Thanks for the back and forth, Its great to talk with yas, I'll be sure to double check my numbers before I fire any more warning shots. And please remember not all of us have the benefit of making it to a shop to research coins. I don't believe I mentioned purchasing it. Guess we all can jump ahead time to time CC "-)

My guess is that its probably real, for the simple fact that a person isn't going to go to the trouble of faking a slab for a coin which is worth under $200 CV. If the numbers check out, then I wouldnt worry too much.

I see nothing wrong with the listing or the coin.
