Hello,

first to introduce myself: I'm a coin collector from Croatia and I collect circulating coins with monarhs heads. One coin with monarch per country in period 1801 - to present.
Example: Mexico: CARLOS IV, FERDINAND VII, AUGUSTIN I ITURBIDE and MAXIMILIAN
I have a lot of questions and I'm sure somebody will know the answers. I don't want NLCT coins in my collection, only circulating coins are welcome. I almost finish 20th century. :)

21th century:

1. NEPAL -- 25 RUPEE 2001-2002 - is this circulating coin?
2. NIUE -- 2009-2010 - circulating coins or NCLT?
3. PITCAIRN ISLANDS - 2009-2010 - circulating coins or NCLT?
4. TRISTAN DA CUNHA -- 2008 - circulating coins or NCLT?
5. GOUGH ISLAND -- 2009 - circulating coins or NCLT?
5. STOLTENHOFF ISLAND -- 2008 - circulating coins or NCLT?

20th century:

1. ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, DOMINICA, GRENADA, SAINT KITIS AND NEVIS,
SAINT LUCIA - 10 DOLLARS 1985 - circulating coins?
2. TURKS AND CAICOS -1/4 & 1/2 CROWN 1981 - circulating coins or NCLT?
3. TOKELAU ISLANDS - 1 TALA 1978-1982 -circulating coins or NCLT?
4. TRISTAN DA CUNHA - 25 PENCE 1977-1981 circulating coins or NCLT?
5. BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS - does their coins circulaing on islands?
Or is it only American dollar?
6. SAINT HELENA - circulating coins or NCLT?
7. ASCENSION ISLAND - circulating coins or NCLT?

This is photo of the last coin I purchase :
Thailand 1929 - 50 satang - Rama VII

Thanks!

Hello and !

What does NCLT stand for?

That is one impressive type collection you have going.

It will be tough to find one person that knows most of those questions or even a few people, since most of those countries aren't very populated.

Did you try searching the internet?

This site allows you to see what circulating coins are for a listed country and it has most of your countries listed:
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pays.php

And I looked up St. Helena and it just has 3 circulating coins:
http://en.numista.com/catalogue/sai...elene-1.html

And BVI has 17 circulating coins on that island.

Good luck,
Wes

wquinn - NCLT=Non Circulating Legal Tender and in other words, commemorative coin that is not intended for circulation.By the way, I saw last time in my library a Krause book with circulating pieces only.

I've underlined the correct answers for you, where I know them.

The only coins on your "uncertain" lists that I know for sure circulated were the Turks & Caicos Islands 1/4 and 1/2 crown coins. I know these circulated because I have seen some extremely well worn examples in coin dealer scratchtrays.

For the past few years, there has been a company somewhere making "sets of coins" in the names of obscure places like Niue, Easter Island, Galapagos Islands etc. None of these coins are officially issued by the country named on them; they're unofficial coins, non-circulating non-legal tender.

Gough and Stoltenhoff Islands are uninhabited barren rocks. There are no people there to do any circulation of coins.

As far as I can tell, none of the small-denomination British Virgin Islands coins were issued in circulation quantity, and all were struck by the Franklin Mint, which did not make coins for circulation for any country that I'm aware of.

The large crown-sized coins issued for Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha are all NCLT. Although these islands are all administrated as one territory, the first two islands use in circulation the coins struck in the name of "St Helena-Ascension". Tristan da Cunha uses regular British coinage.

I'm not sure about the Nepal coinage. As far as I can tell, they're NCLT, with no coin above 10 rupees ever circulating.

I'd say impossible! I'm not aware of any BWA coins beyond 1952.

On your want list you listed Thailand Rama V.
Sorry but his image never featured on any circulating coins during his reign.
However, he does feature on several 'modern' coins issued during the current King's reign. Although they are commemorative they are issued into circulation and I have found most of them in my pocket change.
Here's an example #347 (1997) to commemorate King Chulalongkhorn's European Tour.

There are some others if you want a list.

I probably shouldn't bump this old thread, but there is an error which might mislead someone searching.

"As far as I can tell, none of the small-denomination British Virgin Islands coins were issued in circulation quantity, and all were struck by the Franklin Mint, which did not make coins for circulation for any country that I'm aware of."

This simply isn't true. When they first opened, the Franklin Mint was focussed on making coins & the like, not the so-called collectible garbage they mostly produce now. Many of the smaller countries which customarily contracted out their coinages hired the Franklin Mint, especially during the late '60s & early '70s, when decimalization & the move from London to Wales had the British mint tied up, & the US mints had their own capacity problems. Malaysia & Singapore would be good examples. You can find the "fm" monogram on various circulation types, if you look.
