On the ES on STATES & EPU is Machine Doubling. but you may want to check markers for 002?

Varieties can be machine doubled. The dots look interesting on the EPU.

The EPU dots look like 001 not 002. The S is forked. Check out the AM

The 2 die dots for the 002 are not evident. The TY is a match for 001.

Coop- I swear I see split Serifs on the "S". Can you have Split Serifs and Machine Doubling? Thanks for your response ahead of time.

Also- I know the 2004 1DO-001 and 1DR-001 can be coupled together. Are they always coupled together or are there instances of them occurring separate?

Thanks again,

Anything is possible. It can be a different die pair. Reverse die replaced. On the 2009 LP2 there is a two different reverses for one obverse die:

The splits on one device I don't give much hope in. On one device it could be die flow/coin contact so I usually use more than one device affected to be convincing to me. Having the coin in hand would help to determine which it is. You might try looking at the images on coppercoins 001 & 002 to see if the obverse is doubled exactly on your coin to match 001.
Dies can be replaced when damaged.

Thats definitely a Doubled Die. Now coppercoins isn't going to have all the doubled dies listed on his site for new ones can be found that arent on his site. I can see the nice thickness in EPU from right to left and the dots too. Then the front confirms even more that this is a Doubled Die. Granted I see alot of Machine Doubling too but just stating the obvious on what is hubbed doubling. It looks like a Class VI doubled die maybe class V but thats pushing it.

Edit: On a side note I dont think its 001 or 002.

with Maineman750.

I have 2 of each one, 2004P 001 and 002.

I compared your pics with my coins and it's a match for the 001.

Congrats on a real hard find!
