Had some free time today and stopped by a few antique stores to see what coins they happen to have. I tried some pawn stores before but with no luck. Some of the stores had none, others all common and highly overpriced. But this one store...I hit the jackpot. They didn't have a lot, one small bin that I flipped through. mostly Roosevelt dimes and a few mercs, some wheaties, buffalos...nothing special. and 9 total quarters. 7 Washington and 2 SLQs. Now SLQs are my favorite series. The two coins were both low grade. One a 1925, date cleary visible but unremarkable. The other marked as a 1917 Type I. There was no date visible, but I knew right away that they had marked it incorrectly. It was a Type I, but it wasn't a 1917. She looks to be the lowest grade that I have now, but I'm not complaining What a way to start of the new year.

What identifying feature did you use on this worn quarter. I'm new to the grading and identifying here so I'm just asking for advice? Did you use the spike of her hair?

Briank, in hand it is straight forward to look at all the markers to make a determination. the hair, gown fold at base, shield, gown below the arm. The link above posted by acloco has some details, but Johnny54321 has also posted some good info.
I plan on sending these in for slabbing some time this year, I expect a mix of PO1 and FR2, don't think that even the best one would make it to AG3

That's a great find. I'm jealous. I've been looking to find a dateless for a while.

Wow - amazing. I'd love to find one, have been trying for a couple years, know the marks to look for, just haven't had the luck yet. YET....... :D
Congrats and hey, even in that condition, that coin would sell for several hundred dollars.

The drapery just above the 1 is flat enough to be the real deal.

Hey, you caught up to me again Gary! Congratulations my friend. With 6 now, you probably own enough to impact the market. ;-)
