Hello.
I'm an Italian collector of coins. I apologize for my poor knowledge of English and varieties of the Morgan dollar 1878.
Place the photographs of my money: dollar morgan 8tf 1878.
I kindly ask for help with a correct classification of the varieties.
C

Hi Renzo,

It is hard to tell from your photos, what you might have, if any, but the CherryPickers Guide lists 4 varieties with 8 tail feathers. You might want to look closer at the items that are mentioned below and see if you have anything.

VAM 5 = look for doubling in EPU, but doubling is visible in most obverse lettering.
VAM 9 = An additional feather in the shape of a kidney bean under the eagles's left wing (viewers right hand side of the coin).
VAM 14-11 = Two spikes are protruding from the front of Liberty's eye (obverse).
VAM 15 = Strong doubling in LIBERTY.

I can't be of any help really, but the VAMing part of this form in the classic section might be.

Welcome to Coin Community, Mnelao. I took the liberty of depositing this thread into a place where it will reach a more dedicated audience.

There are a large number of 8TF varieties, some rather valuable and some more pedestrian. Yours shows the hallmarks of what could be either, and is worth coming to a final opinion about. I wonder if I might see a detail image of the left side of the reverse wreath (below ITED of UNITED)? I tentatively believe this to be the VAM-19 variety, characterized by the radical doubling you've shown, but not a very rare variety.

I agree with shadowtrooper78 on you coin being VAM23 nice little TOP100 coin! Doubled Profile, while not exceedingly rare, it's quite desirable as a collectible VAM, your specimen appears to be in AU condition, there are about 100 listed known in UNC+ grades.

This should give you all the diagnostics you need to figure out if your coin matches up.

Yes, I think the P in PLURIBUS is thin at its top, and this is a giveaway for the VAM23.

First time I've ever really looked at VAM diagnostics, though, besides searching for what my 1884 might be. Turned out to be the average, common specimen xp

Nice coin! I could make room for that one.
