I gotta say fake, if you look at the reverse, there is no period after " Trade dollar" And " Trade dollar" is way to fay from the rim

Quote: There should be nothing on a silver coin which comes off easily with handling. First, Cowboy! Quit handling! From your comment, it sounds like you're touching the face, instead of the RIMS ONLY! That yellow area on the reverse, which does indeed look lighter in the newer pix, seems to be decomposed tape, which comes off easily when dried and hardened. Back to Cowboy: Put it in a glass or metal container, cover it with acetone for a few hours, with a lid to prevent rapid evaporation. That should remove the tape.

Quote: I'm a Medevac pilot in Afghan and found this all tarnished up this morning at the market. I only gave five bucks for it and the guy I bought it from did not speak English nor did he know what country this coin was from. The country it's from is prolly China. Those traders have handled money from dozens of countries for decades and know more about coins than you or I ever will. There is no way they're gonna sell you $26 worth of silver for five bucks. Just curious, if you flip it around the 9-3 axis, if the reverse upright, like on typical US coins? If it's upside down, it's likely fake Current guess: 99.99% likely it's fake.

I deg to biffer. There's nothing "nice" about counterfoots. I might go with a very deceptive counterfeit. Opps caught me, you are right biggfredd! Nothing nice about counterfeit coins. I should know better than that. I should have used better wording like very well made or super deceptive. Thanks for pointing that out.

Quote: fake or not I learned something today about coins and had a lot of fun doing it! It also gave me hope in something for a bit so I would say I got my money's worth I also believe it's fake but your $5 was well spent since it took your mind off the danger you deal with on a daily basis. Thank you for your service to our country.

"I'm a Medevac pilot in Afghan and found this all tarnished up this morning at the market." First, thank you for your service. Second, the seller might not know US coinage, but he probably knows silver or not. If he sold you this for $5 US dollars, he was certain it's not silver. Bryan: nice coin!
