tarheelblueboy New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 01/16/2012 02:46 am So I came across this super shiny 1979 penny at work (I'm a teller @ a credit union), and I think it may be a doubled die. I can't find any information on the internet or any databases about a 1979 doubled die obverse penny. I'm brand new to coin collecting, so this could be my first real rare find. What do you all think? I'm thinking I should get it graded. If you look at the date and the last 9 you can see a chip that appears to have landed up and to the left. There seems to be lots of doubling on all the words, it's really a beautiful coin. I was surprised to find such a shiny coin in circulation, and even more surprised once I scanned it and looked at it under magnification. Scans do not include the reverse, but I can assure you it is just normal. Please include any info if you have any on 1979 doubled dies, because like I said, I found none. I didn't think it was MD because it's doubled everywhere. Plus, it's smooth and rounded, but I have little clue of what to look for. I looked more carefully at the reverse and it has signs of Strike Doubling as well. The forum has been very helpful! I'll keep looking!
