I've been looking at this one. I believe it's genuine just heavily burnished. Why someone did this to such a rare coin is beyond me.

He is selling a lot of high end coins and only feedback from as a seller is for comicbooks that I see, looks ok but I'd be wary and catious, the Morgan set he is selling looks amazing, wonder if anyone has vamed it, there are 20+ 1878 dorgans in there.

That's the same guy with the "biggest lot ever offered" we've discussed elsewhere.

If it had a loop on top as a necklace, it could wear like that from rubbing against clothes.

I'd say it's a fake, the date is wrong. This coin comes from a few varieties all with a small date except for one, the small over large date that has the small date punched in over a large 18. The 18 on this coin looks like it could match the small over large date, but the 0 should be a small 0 and it isn't. It also has the wrong reverse for the small over large date.

If you feel it is a fake, why not report it to ebay then? They do look at complaints about people auctioning off fakes and will pull the auction. I have seen it done a few times.

He is a ebay top-rated seller, why not contact him directly in order to give him the benefit of doubt?
