No they will NOT be rare! In many areas of the country they will be extremely difficult to find unless you order directly from the mint as a great number of banks WILL NOT call out dollar coins from the Federal Reserve. Sadly I must admit I have to find someone who will have access to these new Presidential dollars as I have trading friends in Europe and Australia who do want to collect them and I have NO desire to pay the Mint a premium for something I should be able to find at local banks. I know that WILL NOT happen so the search for a connection has begun!

I know at least one of my banks will be caring them. They accully have coin holder displayed on teller area. I asked about them and it looks like a outside person is selling these thought the bank. Thsy were kind of nice they made it so you can see the edge lettering. I didn't get the price of them but if anyone is interested next time I go there I can get the info on them. But with that said I asked them if they will have them and they said yes they will but they are not sure when they will and don't no how much longer after the release date they will get them. So I will have atleast on source for now to get them but only time will tell how they do. For the investment side I don't think they will go up to much. Look at the State Quarters they started out making money but really only the proof set are worth alot. I think this set will be very fun and looking forward to it. But if your are looking at it for the investment then I would buy the President proof set when it comes and the standard proof. I think those will be the only thing that go up much. But I guess only time will tell. Coins should be for the joy of collecting not Making alot of money right away.

then coolg I think they will be a great set for you to collect. Since Alot of banks will have them and you can get a roll for I beleave 20 dollars for a roll. then you can go though and pick out the best 5 and put them into folders/albums or at least 2x2s. then the coins you don't like take them back to the bank of spend them since the more people spending them the beter. I will be doing a set for my 3 kids and a P and D and Proof set for myself. So this will be a set you can put togther and stick with.

I think I will do one P&D set and spend the other dollar coins to get them circulating and make them more available for others in my community. I will buy $20 rolls uncirculated P&D and find the best 5 of P and best 5 of D and make 5 sets. I cannot decided lol.

By all means, collect them. At 14, you'll have no trouble collecting the entire set, however many that may be. As long as we have a country, we'll continue having presidents, and those presidents will continue to pass away, creating more Presidential dollars - almost a never ending series. Ralph

I'm excited about the Presidential dollars. I don't believe they will be any more rare than the Sacagawea dollars or the SBA's. We have five or six banks in town. Within the last week I went into the largest bank, the second largest, and our credit union. The answers to "Will you have Presidential dollars available for your customers," respectively were: "I don't know why not." "Sure" and, "We're planning on it." So, here in western Colorado at least, I don't think getting the coins is going to be difficult.

Unfortunately I am one of the "online" banking folks, and I honestly can't tell you the last time I actually entered a bank. I think I actually get charged using bank services inside of one depending on what it is. Not much repertoire with any bank for sure. That being said, it's good to know that a few people may have access. I am only postage and a paypal account away!!!!! lolololol.

i belong to a credit union and when I went in for my weekly coin roll attack they had no idea about these. I dropped the knowledge for them and they were like "you want a job here?" lol!
i think with the new 'date-on-the-side' thing these would make a great coin to invest in, especially the proof sets like was mentioned before.

I think you should collect what ever brings joy to you. If you like the designs and want to collect these coins then by all means I would do it. I just do not think they will be a good investment because of the large numbers that will be minted but if they are as unpopular as I beleive they will be it still may be a good idea to have some to put up if not for anything else to teach the grandkids (I know will be many years for you)about the Presidents and I may get a set just for that reason but I never expect the coins to ever be worth much more than a dollar in my lifetime

By the sounds of this release from the mint that the banks can order these for you if requested. The head teller should be able to help if not move up the ladder to the manager of the bank then the president. I do not know the quanity that the bank has to order. I wonder how many rolls will be in a box etc. As far as valuable - every dollar saved is to your benefit saving for the future at your age.
Distributed through Banks and Other Financial Institutions
The United States Mint and the Federal Reserve System are working in partnership to make it easy for businesses and members of the general public to obtain the new coins as they are released. The Presidential $1 Coins will be shipped to banks and other financial institutions in rolls, unmixed with other dollar coins. For each new design, banks may order and store the coins up to two weeks prior to the introduction so they will have supplies on hand on the release date. The coins will be available in unmixed rolls for four weeks after the introduction of each design. When each new Presidential $1 Coin is released, the special ordering process begins again

Shatsi, I haven't heard, but I would think they would be part of both mint sets and proof sets.
