It's a little steep (2x CV) but the No LCW variety is very scarce. CV is $25K for this coin... (Krause 2009 Catalog of World Coins)

I saw the items posted by this seller last night and also wondered about what seemed like 'crazy' prices.

The one item that initially caught my eye was a 'rare' 1971 Specimen set for just over 1500$. Is that set really that rare?

I am not sure what they are up to with the prices. Maybe just trying to get attention. They also listed on ebay the solo ms66 1929 cent at close to $10,000. The same coin is in one of their upcoming auction with a start price of 2900 after going unsold at several recent auctions with a start of 6000 and then later 5000 as I recall.

@ CC.

No, The specimen coinage that year was available to all Canadians via the "Prestige Set" aka Double Dollar Set. To my knowledge, there were no special issue narrow cases like there were in 1970. IF the coins are in one of those, all it is (in my opinion only) is a 71 specimen set in a 70 case (of which there are only around a 1000ish apparently).

The specimen coins the seller has listed aren't all that spectacular grade wise so I have no idea what's up.

Thanks Ugly. Good information.

I guess this is just another seller out in left field.

Nothing cheap about them, but you would think they would post better pictures on ebay for the prices they command.

Some awesome coins listed today. He's the owner of The Canadian Numismatic Company that runs the Torex shows in Toronto, Ontario as well as the monthly C & P Internet auctions on icollector.com.
All that was listed on E-bay by him today can be found in his page lenght add on this weeks C.C.N. bi-monthly Newsletter. It's in the category of: (you guessed it) Rare Coins!
I call those "lottery" coins. Coins that 99.9% Numismatists can only dream of & never own, unless of course..............!
