This 1921 Mercury dime has a peeled layer at around 10:00 position. You'll see that the edge is also a lot thinner there too. Is it a planchet error or lamination or something else? Is this regarded as a good error, that is, does it provide additional value, or is it considered damage? Thanks.

Probably used nitric acid, common in coin and bullion shops to test for gold quality, might have been a coin someone just dropped some on to see what happened, or was accidentally spilled and the coin sat in some for a bit.

"Is this coin real silver?"

"Here, a guy taught me to put a drop of this acid on it."

"Hey that's too much! Wipe it off!"

"What with my hand?! It's acid!"

"Well get something! My coin is dissolving! You owe me a new dime!"

"Gaak! We're out of paper towels! Hold on!"

The reverse looks normal, not peeled or corroded.
