Went to my first "Real" coin store today who claimed wholesale prices. They weren't kidding, and when I told them I was getting just getting started they took the time to actually talk to me.

I started off small, just asking for a couple of years of dimes, and pennies to fill in some empty spots in my albums that I haven't found in circulation. I started off with 2 dimes and 8 pennies all uncirculated. I said how much is that going to be, and his response was 28 cents. I was blown away,so I upped the ante. I asked for a 48 dime, and he pulled out a gorgeous one, charged 2.20 for it.

Next I said I'll take 10 Franklin halves, he randomly pulled them out of the case picking different years and mintmarks all of which either UNC or BU. 6 of them rated MS63, 1 MS65+, 2 unrated but they look the same as the MS 63 and a one that is differently labeled readind 1963 proof. Total cost for the 10 franklins was 135.25

With the intention of going towards $200 I figured I'd just grab some junk silver so he brought over 4 walking liberties, all better looking than the ones in my collection... total cost for them was $44

Just got home and found a fifth walking liberty in the bag I wasn't charged for. I don't know if it was a gift or mistake but the next time I'm in there I'll certainly check and if it was a mistake I'll pay for it.

GREAT day.

Wow, that is awesome! And wholesale prices is no lie either. It's a shame there aren't more dealers like that. Congrats

Now that is what I call a really smart coin dealer. Knowing your new and spending time with you, giving you some great deals, helping you as much as possible, is really good buisness. Hopefully he continues that policy. Way to many store owners start out nice and slowly change. You may well have found a great place to buy coins.

Good prices but not anything really special. At the local club meeting Monday we had NGC Franklins MS-63 and 64 and a couple of NGC slabbed proofs from the 58 - 63 years selling for $11 to $13 apiece. The thing is these are still common enough that even in BU these coins are still pretty much bullion value. Even for slabbed ones. I don;t normally collect moderns but at the prices that Franklins sell for I keep thinking I should put together a set in the 63 to 64 range. Even in 64 none of them are out of reach price wise as long as you don't insist on FBL coins.

Conder101. I understand what your saying but the truth is I wasn't really looking for anything special. I'm a college student who was just looking for some good deals on coins to start with. I can always upgrade later but the fact is I got everything for pretty much melt.

Even told me if I bring in worn circulated coins he would just swap them out for me for unc. Coins.
