plan on reading the wiki.com but is there anything special to look out for? certain years or ?
been sorting a PILE of world coins and getting a lot of aussie, love the designs and it seems even the older stuff is usually in good shape. thinking of narrowing my interest to the aussie stuff.
any advice or help appreciated!

The pennys and half pennys are probebly the most commonly collected. There are some that will be fairly expensive to get. the threepence and sixpence silver coins are probably the least expensive set to start out on. the shillings are next then when you get into the florins that's when you will be emptying the wallet on a few of the key dates. The one and Two Cent coins are pretty readily available ( you can get circulation coin sets on ebay from $15-$25 ) then you have the 5,10,20,50cent sets $1 and $2 sets. The decimal coins are probably the easiest to acquire. or you can just make up a type set. one of each type and obverses.

wade: Get hold of a 1927 Canberra florin. They turn up in nice condition, they are .925 silver, and a belter of a design to boot!
trout1105 can tell you a thing or two about these!

1930 penny Lots of great things to look out for. Too many to list. Pick a denomination and stick to that for a while or try and get one of each denomination in the predecimal and decimal series. Did you take that photo erkle? If so its awesome huge improvement of some of your older ones.

Out of all the commemorative florins, my FAVOURITE is the 1954. Not necessarily the design but the symbolism of the lion and the kangaroo really gets me (perhaps I should add I'm a history teacher).
My current pursuit are shillings. So far, I have 3 - 1918, 1943 x 2 (both mints). Purchased them all in Uncirculated condition. Think will have to lower my standards for the tricky/earlier dates!

I took advantage of the chance to examine a proof and a gem Unc Parliament House alongside each other, at a view day for an auction.
The Unc. coin had more detail struck up, especially in the area of the steps to the building.

When you have finished sorting them out put a list up here. I'm sure that I will be able to send you a few coins to get you up and running
