Why not, All they can tell you is no but most of them just hand out the change and you go away happy

That shouldn't be a problem. Are you roll searching? If so, you might think about buying coins from one bank and once you've gone through the rolls, cash them in at a different bank where you do have an account. I've heard some banks can get a little annoyed if you buy coins from them in bulk and then bring them back a few days later to be run through their counting machine. Some banks will charge for counting them out for you if you don't have an account with them. Generally, they won't charge you if you do have an account.

A word to the wise.....Keep track of which bank you bought from and which bank you're returning to. If it's the same one? Allow at least a week until you go as for more change. Odds are if you don't, you'll be searching the same coins.
My wife is an enabler....she bought me a sorting machine for christmas.....so now, when I get a roll that I take a few coins out of, it gets dumped into the machine and reloaded. I have a another container with lots of junk pennies to refil the ones that end up at .45 c
If you know you're going to search, get the bank to order you some from their central depot. It's never happened to me, but I've heard of boxes containing 20 mint rolls from the 70's

Some banks in my area require that you have an active account with them or they will charge a fee for rolls that you purchase. This started about 2 years ago. I used to buy $100-$200 worth of rolls per week but then they wanted me to have an account or they would charge me 15% of the value of the rolls. I buy most of my rolls now at grocery stores which are usually more than happen to unload rolls of pennies. They'd rather not sell the other denominations.

I'm suprised that they haven't charged yet for speaking to a human at the bank.

It's just a matter of time.

For CIBC, Yes. For TD, No. For RBC, Yes, but they would ask you for an account and sometimes even ask for your personal information. Other banks, might not even have much coins.

The only bank I have an account at is Scotia. I usually use them for my dump banks along with a local TD as they are open on Sundays and a CIBC as they are the closest bank to me. I have a 2xTD, CIBC, 2xRBC and 2xBMO,s that I buy from. I do not have an account with any of the other institutions...just the Scotia. I have rarely had an issue buying boxes of coins at any of the banks. The only time I have had an issue is if it is the weekend and they only have enough to make sure they can accommodate their business customers over the weekend. My best advise is to ask. All they can say is no.
Good luck hunting and I hope your find a few treasures.

@Petersun, it's funny how banks can change from town to town. I've gone in to all major branches (RBC, CIBC, Coast Capital Savings, HKBC etc.) for coins and have never been refused. I only have an account at TD. None of them have ever asked me if I have an account with them. However I don't buy boxes from the other banks but if I walk in with $50-$100 and asked for rolls of loonies, dimes, quarters or a mixture I've always been able to get them no questions asked.
