This is difficult to say. You have not described what the gold coin is and actually we don't even know if it's gold or not at the moment! If it is indeed gold, well at least it's worth it's bullion value, which you can check at http://www.xe.com/uccWelcome to coincommunity by the way.

april: If you could take a dig pic or at the very least a scan of the coin then maybe we could help you. If not, a description could help...U.S.? Eagle? Panda? Maple Leaf etc. Year? A 1oz coin for bullion alone would be around spot price of about $600/ounce, however, there may be an additional numismatic (coin collectors) value as well. Encapsulated would indicate to me that the coin is what is called "Brilliant Uncirculated" but, not necessarily. It could just be in the "capsule" (i.e. "Air Tite") for protection of a collectors coin and so forth. It may also be a Proof but, I doubt it as documentation would usually accompany a Proof. Does any of this help you? You can look these terms up in the CCF Glossary if you don't know what they mean or you can just ask here. We are happy to help you in any way that we can.

I am guessing since she has said it is "One Troy Ounce" it is a bullion piece of some sort and not an American Eagle nor a Panda, just a ounce of gold in the form of a coin for bullion purposes and the value would run along side of spot prices

You might be right Bryan. I hope that she comes back and we can help her or atleast find out what she has. Sounds like she is a great employee to deserve an ounce of Gold in any form!

Pictures will be nice if you can post it. I am so hoping that it is not 1 troy ounce of silver gold plated.
