Think if I call him and offer 2 grand he'll hold it for me until I can drive up there?

At least he's honest with the mintage, over 1 billion coins minted. I can't believe that out of over 1 billion coins, only 2 have been graded that high. What does numismedia have this listed at?

Numismedia lists an MS-67 example at $810.00. I would argue that the reason only two have been graded that high is most people aren't going to fork out the cash to get a 64 nickel graded. I can't count how many I've come across in rolls, and many in great condition.

That's true, full steps always raise the price too.

Here are a couple of gems from our local Craigslist...

http://madison.craigslist.org/clt/2802857361.html - I am not a Lincoln Cent collector, but it appears that the good dates are missing and the coins are all circulated, so the asking price seems high. By the way, it was $250 a week ago.

I totally want the Arcade Coin Pusher Game. Guy over in Middleton had a whole bunch of Franklins but I never got back to him, although I do have his email address still.

You were looking at regular jeffereson nickels, you need to look at the ones graded with full steps. Numismedia has a 1964 d graded ms66 priced at $7310. Ms67 isn't even listed. And if I had a great looking 1964 nickel, I would definitely think about sending it in for grading. they go for big bucks in high grades.

In the past few weeks I have been seeing a lot of coins being sold locally like this. I think people are starting to get desperate for money and are trying to get the most out of their "investments." There is one guy who is trying to see some Iditarod coins from the Alaska Mint. They are one oz. of silver but he is asking hundreds of dollars for them. No body is biting. I just hope nobody pays a lot for some coins that are common.

I would have never guessed that was 67 or full steps had it been in our grading forum

CoinWorld lists a MS 65 FS as 750. No value for anything higher. A 63 MS66 FS lists at a grand. So the price he is asking is in line with the values listed.

Here's some relevant Heritage Auctions results for this specific (same NGC serial) coin:

$2760 on Sept. 27, 2007
$1207.50 on July 8, 2010
$977.50 on July 7, 2011

There's no way I'd call it a 67 if I had it in hand. The reverse is shredded, and the obverse isn't much better than 64.

http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...2&lotNo=3414
http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...7&lotNo=3351

During this research, I saw the second NGC 67FS, and it's the real deal:

There's a reason why this coin appears on the market so often - people are buying it, and then realizing what they've just slammed in the door by doing so.

I just couldn'y imagine spending $7,000 on a 1964 Jefferson, just seems out of line to me.
