I received an early birthday present yesterday and I thought I'd share. This is my first Buffalo so I'm not 100% on what I should be looking at to really evaluate this coin. I'd appreciate any feedback or guesses at a grade. Forgive the pics, I had a bit of white balance issues and had to tweak them quite a bit.

Beauty. Full horn, terrific strike. I'd go MS65 with a shot at 66? Nice gift and happy birthday!

It doesn't get much better than that.
I agree with acloco MS66/67.
That is the best Buffalo strike I have seen.

Beautiful buffalo! I would go MS-65 but can't rule out the possibility of a higher grade.

Thanks for the feedback, all. After seeing your grades and looking at current/past values I had to make sure my step-dad didn't spend too much money on me. He bought it from a local dealer for $65.00, so I felt ok about that and looks like he found a great deal!

Nice coin, but I'd only say 63. At 66, even 65, it's not a bargain, but a giveaway.

Awesome strike. (Note the split tail.) Gotta be at least 65.

Thanks again for the feedback. I'd like to ask for a bit of advice. This is (potentially) my most valuable coin (I only started a few years ago and have dealt mainly with modern US coinage). Seeing as it was a gift I will not be selling it unless there is some type of financial emergency. At the very least I'm going to remove it from the flip and place it in an air-tite. If this were your coin, would you send it to a TPG? Would there be any potential benefit sending it to PCGS/NGC over ANACS besides the ability to liquidate faster/for a greater return? My main concern is keeping it in good condition. I've an inquiry in to my bank for a safety deposit box for part of my collection, so hopefully I can minimize environmental damage. I'm just looking for a few opinions as to my best course of action.

Quote: would you send it to a TPG? I wouldn't but that is only one man's opinion. I'm no fan of grading services. MANY here would disagree with me. I would get an airtight holder for it and keep it at home so I could admire it occasionally.

That is one great looking coin my friend. I have taken a liking to this design and I am still looking for my first 1938-d buff in ms-66 or better. I keep holding bids and losing them in the last few minutes. Lots of them out there so I can be very picky.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the coin.
