Probably some kind of discoloration due to being exposed to the environment. I have picked coins out of dirt that after washing the dirt off have a similar coloration. Lots of different things can change a coins color once it leaves the mint.
Color changes are pretty standard for the copper cents...but if you suspect something, weight is an important factor and a large variation from normal can mean something. Welcome to CCF !
