I was browsing through ebay listings last night and this one had less than 45 seconds to go at $0.99 so I made an impulse last second bid and got it for under $4.00. Any comments on potential grade are welcome. Thanks!

It looks to have been cleaned. Someone will come along that is better at grading coppers. Nice details.

Possibly cleaned, hard to tell from pictures. Looks like a VF35+.

Is the evidence of cleaning the many paralell lines on the reverse (the side with the date)? Also, I was guessing MS-60 or UNC...with a bit of corrosion or dirt...I don't see any obvious wear at all, but then again I am not comparing it to a picture of a perfect one...please enlighten me folks? What are the high spots that are worn? I cannot see any wear at all...

Look at the beads and jewels on the crown. These are normally the high spots that you are referring to.

Quote: Is the evidence of cleaning the many paralell lines on the reverse (the side with the date)? Yes, the fine parallel lines are the clear indicator the coin has been cleaned. OBV and REV in the fields of the coin. Plus, the parallel lines change angles which for sure makes the coin cleaned. Quote: I don't see any obvious wear at all... Those fine lines are wear. They didn't get put there durning the manufacturing process. Thus, MS grade is ruled out. This is my basic understand of what a MS coin is vs a non-MS coin. The rim dings are another post mint damage/wear. As to grade I'll let the members who have been doing this a lot longer than me give you that, but a VF-EF (cleaned) looks about right.

That is kinda what I had thought. Seller described it as UNC but with such a short time to go before the bidding ended, I didn't look to close. Occasionally there are good buys to be had on Canadian coins when the "ship to" is U.S. only.
I did combine it with six 50 cent pieces (non-silver) in years I didn't have at face value so I am not displeased.

As long as YOU like it that is all that really matters. Cleaned or not, it does look nice!
