Are these particularly hard to find?
I never seem to see them anywhere. The nickel/bronze proofs seem readily available but I haven't seen any.
My 2010 Charlton shows them as being in a black suede case but it doesn't list a mintage or an issue price but shows a value of $20 for PF-67 and $30 for PF-68.

I have a piedfort as well but apparently there is a regular size toonie with the silver composition.

I have been wondering if these exist. Does anyone here have a 1996 silver toonie that is not the piedfort coin?

Yes there is a silver regular sized Proof coin as well. However the ebay item you refer to appears to be the nickel/bronze Proof coin in the black leatherette case.

It's weird. I have a silver toonie collection from 1996-present, but I could never seem to find that 1996 silver normal toonie. There are a lot of proof versions for sale but not the silver proof version. I'm wondering if the Charlton standard was mistaken in listing it.

I agree with you chubbycheeks. It seems odd that there would be one and it would be so difficult to find. I can only ever find the non-silver proof version and the silver piedfort version. I'll probably keep looking for one but I really doubt they exist. Just because a guide books says they do doesn't mean anything to me if they can never be found.

I remember, few days ago saw one on ebay, but... i forgot, was it sterling silver. The Toonie coin was placed in the small wooden box. It actually not really the box, but some wooden display, like for niobium coins. Hope, it helps to the search. BIN price was 20-30 dollars

Wouldn't the sterling silver 1996 Twoonie be from the double dollar sets, since it's the first year other coins are made of sterling silver. Maybe someone that owns a set can check their COA and tell us.

@pocket_change50. I just looked for double dollar sets from 1996 on ebay and while some of the coins are silver, it appears that the toonie was not included in the double dollar set that year. Since the silver toonies are included in other years it makes sense to think that it would be there, but it's not unless there was another set I am unaware of. It's strange because I think there are many who collect the toonies but no one seems to have the regular 1996 Silver toonie. I would think that someone here would have one if they existed.

1996 GOLD PROOF POLAR BEAR $2 COIN CANADA No, that one is listed separately. In other years where they had the $2 coins with the gold core (i.e. 1999, 2000), there were also proof toonies that had silver composition. I believe now that in 1996 only the base metal regular proof toonie was actually produced.
