Hi there. I'm just wondering your opinions on this one. I could kind of match it up to the 1DO-003 on coppercoins but liberty also looked different than the example given. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a normal coin with slight Machine Doubling on the reverse. The devices on LIBERTY were the give away. They are normal sized. Take a look again :

Okay, thanks for your response Coop but looking at liberty on this coin and comparing it to the other large dates it looks alot wider and more bloated than the others that I've already went through but then again, what do I know, I'm asking for the help. LOL.

I just discovered an image of this die in my files compared with a normal and the 003. I didn't have the images marked as normal, but that is what the upper image of the pairs are. Side by side helps to see what is going on:

I've noticed one other person has used this in their discovery on a doubled die on this site. It really trains our eyes when the images are next to each other to see th differences. When moving from one coin to another one, some details may be missed until you eyes start to pick up on spread of a doubled die compare with a normal coin.

@Coop, thank you for the info. I can see the differences better when they are placed side to side and I can see how comparing the 2 in hand could also train the eye. How do you check your coins? I usually check with a loupe first and if something seems like it should have a second look then I will throw it under the camera and check it out.

@Jayman - I am currently using my Canon Rebel T1i and a Canon ef-s 60mm macro lens. The camera is set on a tripod and it has the live view function which can also be controlled by a computer. The camera will allow you to zoom pretty close in and once focus is achieved I use the snipping tool in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and take a snippet of the live view image.

Thank you both for your help and responses.

I use a microscope that helps see varieties better for me. On varieties I question I use the images of both normal/variety. If its idenfied, I keep them. On the example above it is a nromal coin with images from coppercoins. I use these for teaching aids. The side by side images trains the eye WHAT to look for and WHY it is different than a normal coin. I have these as easy references on my computer and like to share with others. You may wish to copy these for your image library. Right click can save the image or highlight an article including images and save to a word page. You can't remove the images, but you can print the information to make your own three hole binder for easy reference.
