Pictures are posted before. I can not read the last two digits of the date. Let me know what you guys think. I found thin coin while seaching a $100 box yesterday. I'm my opinion (I'm new to this so please ignore) It looks like the 9 is "smudged", the next number is an "8" with a "7" over it, and the last number looks like a doubled "2". IMHO it is not a PMD because the "1" and the right side of the face are not smudged or rounded off. I appreciate any feedback and can take more pictures if needed. THANKS!

That is a die chip between the 9 and 8 and not a digit.

And it looks like a die chip on the 2. Not sure about the 8 though. Maybe partially Grease Filled Die or Die Deterioration?

I definately not going to argue with you guys, and it hurts my cause when I post horrible pictures like that. That being said, when I view this with a 10x loupe, the 7 over the 8 is actually quite legible. I am taking it to the dealer today, to see what he says. I will post later! Thanks!

The picture is clear enough to definitively show that the date is just simply damaged. There is no overdate, the "7" that you see is sheared metal from the last two digits of the date(damaged dates frequently have sheared metal that appears to be die break or another digit).

I agree with biokemist. Just damage. You can do this yourself with a screwdriver. Just push the metal aside.

If the metal was pushed aside, wouldn't there be a gap between that piece of metal and the coin's surface?

It looks like it is part of the 9 and on top of the 8, like a die chip.

It can't be a '82 or '92 because there's no mintmark. Probably a '62.

I'd say '62. '82 would have a "P" or "D" on buisness strikes. Plus the distance of the ponytail off the neck and the size of the star.
