Don't bother if it's already in a reputable slab. When it comes time to flip, you can always show images proving the attribution, and that will be more than enough to sell it. Although a Top 100 VAM, it's not among the rarest and won't carry a huge premium.

Thanks Superdave, thats what I was thinking. One problem is that it is not graded by a reputable company (NGS).

Hmph. That changes things. You can't really expect a lot of increased value; can you justify the cost of submitting to ANACS plus the $5 for variety designation? I'm guessing it'll come back MS63.

I paid about $50.00 for the coin. What would it be worth in an ANACS slab if it came back as a 63?

A VAM-12 in an attributed NGC slab went for $66 at ebay this afternoon. I'm thinking that's about right.

After viewing this post yesterday evening, and seeing that the NGC-MS63 sold for $66.00, I dug mine out of the closet to check the grade and what I paid for it... I purchased this coin a few years ago on ebay for a total of $131.00 as the CoinValues retail price guide listed a 1887 non-vam at around $200.00 in MS65... I guess this VAM does not carry much of a premium as the February 2012 Coin World CoinValues list the 1887 regular Silver Dollar at $65.00 in MS63, $100.00 in MS64 and $225.00 in MS65 condition... The photo below was taken last night at a low light level (40 watt bulb)...

In These times. one will learn quickly, the RETAIL value listing's and the Real value VS the supposed Retail value...
Every commoditey has a high and low and also whether anyone's interested in anything at one point and time...Vams are just the same...
IF one likes a a particular coin/vam we buy it..one must also look at the percieved value of the coin inquestion...
but this is just like any thing we are interested in.. one must understand.. study the market trends,,,,,within a flucuating crapshoot....
