Nice coin. Has some planchet granulatity but looks corrosion free. Appears VF20-25. Nice pickup! $660 Numismedia VF20

this is a very hard coin to find in problem free condition and I think this one looks really nice. It looks to have a little porosity but it doesn't detract from the eye appeal much at all

That is rather unusual to get such a nice coin for a decent price. And lots of bidding going on so some really lost out on a good deal.

IMHO, a solid VF with uniformly minor surface porosity; and, strong eye appeal for a most reasonable price. Also, there appears to be well-balanced wear on the obverse and reverse surfaces.

I'd have a lot of trouble paying that much for a raw coin off ebay, and maybe that's why the bidding didn't get any higher. It looks like you got a good deal, though!

I agree that is a nice looking large cent, I see so many of them on ebay with remnants of corrosion, much like my favorite series the 2¢ piece, hard to find really nice circulated examples, you did good on this one coinguybrian!

Don't kid yourself, there are a lot of serious collectors that will pay much more than that for raw coins if they are interested in them. Especially when the auction has good pictures like that one did.

Yeah, I figured this one had planchet roughness rather than actual porousity, looks a bit different to me. I've tried to win these over and over and always lose, so it was nice to get one for a change.

Looks like light corrosion is the cause of the granularity. The denticles seem partly eroded which IMO is another hint that oxidation has eaten some of the original metal. Nevertheless, there doesn't appear to be any new or ongoing corrosion and eye appeal is pretty good. Your cent offers a lot of sharp detail for the price and is way better than the average Classic Head type example.
