I found this Wheatie in change. I know it is not a steel because it is not magnetic. As you can tell by the pics, its in very ruff shape. I was thinking that the silver coloring was solder because it is raised in spots but then wouldn't that add to the weight of a copper penny? It only weighs 2.9g. I know its damage, but what would possibly cause this? Thanks for any and all opinions.
The silver stuff probably is solder, and the reason for the lighter weight is probably because the coin is so heavily damaged it probably lost lot of the bronze through corrosion or exposure to whatever it was used for. It's basically a one-cent coin.
