A snippet copied from an ebay announcement today (FYI):

quote:
Safe Payment Requirement for New Sellers - Today I announced that we'll be requiring all newly registered sellers to accept PayPal or a merchant credit card. We know that PayPal is the safest way to pay on ebay, and we want to make sure our buyers have this option with new sellers. (Existing sellers will not be affected by this requirement.). (Read our FAQs for more details.)

We already accept Paypal for the convenience, but I would resent being forced to accept it (and all the fees that it entails). Unfortunately, it's their auction site and they can do whatever they want...

appears to be just the new sellers at this point but I would expect it to become all sellers before long.

You know if they keep getting involved in how sellers operate , it wont be long before employee status is achieved and they will be required to provide employer taxes and fee's as well as benefits.

its not far from that now,, control and dierection are all that is needed to accomplish it .

I wouldn't even consider selling on ebay without Paypal, and I'm a little seller.

That said, I think ebay is clearly trying to leave the little guy behind. But that's been obvious (to me anyway) for some time now.

Why do you think that the penny auctions are so important to powersellers? It is very obvious to me. It adds just enough to keep some in the hunt. Just the way it looks.

Looks like ebay just singed a big contract with Paypal. I wonder how many millions ebay will get for making this mandatory. Corporate American, as my dad would say.

Big brother needs to stop ebay on this matter! If a buyer want to risk sending a MO or other payment that should be their RIGHT !I use paypal for selling ,and buying. Why should ebay tell a seller what payment they have to take.(WRONG WRONG WRONG) What next Walmart only taken their charge cards? ebay is getting out of control!!!!!!!!

Buyers will have the right to pay with any method the seller accepts. ebay is mandating that all new sellers take Paypal. That doesn't mean they can not accept money orders, checks, or even rancid yak butter as payment.

However, it does stink, worse than the Yak butter.

I wouldn't sell on ebay without accepting Paypal, but that's MY decision.

Mmm, I wonder if this is a move by ebay to stop what's going on in Australia? Over here most, if not all sellers clearly state they will NOT accept Paypal for transactions within Australia, only for overseas sales. Apparently there is a big fee hit sellers are trying to avoid.

Direct deposit directly into the bank via EFT works very smoothly, which most Aussies use.

I am not a seller, and the way things are now I don't think it's worth it to bother. ebay is for buyers.

Not only do they OWN Paypal, they have just entered into thast frosty area of "Unfair Competition" and "Restraint of Trade."

Watch, now the Paypal fees will go up substantially.

Interesting. My friends wife just registered and listed her 1st ever auction item and all that was asked of her was to accept cashiers checks, personal checks. Not a thing about having to accept paypal with her listing.

How do you know they're not insured? Did the seller tell you that? It's the only way you could know.
