I am not a great grader but I would put your 1956 at proof 65, there seems to be one mark on the bell and a few spots on both the front and reverse that would hold it back. I would be proud to have it in my album.

Very nice looking coins muddler

I tried to take some pictures of the proof set I have.
I ended up cutting the half out of the cello, but still can't get a really good pic. I think it looks better in hand. I only have about $10.00 in the coin, I have had it a long time. It might be worth sending into a TPG.

Check the EPU for doubling. There is too much glare to tell for sure. But looks interesting.

GR58, I am glad this thread was helpful. Please keep us up to date on what you do with your Type 1 and if you have it graded.

Since I'm here, I came across a 1958 type 2 the other day at a local shop. I pointed it out to the guy who owns the place and explained that its a much lower mintage than the standard type 1 for that date. He really wasnt aware, but I am glad I pointed it out. I'm going to go back today and see if hes adjusted a price because I have absolutely no clue if this variety demands a premium. I may actually buy it, as long as its not too expensive.

Very interesting and great proofs. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check my 56 proof set to see which one I have now.

I checked my sets and all are type 2. At least it is good to know there are 2 different types of eagle tail feathers. Thanks for sharing.
