It has a bit of corrosion on the back...some on the front too. Would it benefit from a cleaning or would you just leave the coin in honest condition ? Maybe use something like Verdi-Care or whatever that stuff is. Thanks.... Oregon coin geek.....*** GO BEAVS ! ! ! ***

Would the corrosion keep eating away at the coin ? I really don't know.

Verdi-care is alright, but it doesn't look to have verdigris, just corrosion. It shouldn't advance if stored normally. Coin looks about Au-50 by the way.

Oh never mind, I see what you mean...yeah maybe verdi-care could help a little bit because there's still some green.

It's a tough call for me personally. I hate receiving cleaned coins but at the same time I wanna stop the damage from the corrosion. I doubt you could remove it without leaving scarring but I've never tried and am just curious.

That's a wicked nice AU IHC. I wouldn't clean it, but that's just me. If you're wondering about the results from vericare try it first on a low-value filler.

Here's a question for anybody that might know......if it was a good enough penny to make my album and I put it in, could it infect all the other coins with the corrosion ?

I'm not seeing what's called "bronze disease"; which burrows into the coin leaving pits and a powdery white-green residue. Judging from the color, this coin has already been cleaned, but they didn't remove everything. I would just leave as it is.

I don't think it's been cleaned, there's just too much junk on the reverse. There's some on the obverse between United States and the rim.

I not sure vericare would change the look of the coin, but it would not hurt it, and my understanding is the product leaves a protective atomic layer on the coin. Send badthad an email for info

I think I'm just gonna leave it alone and list it on ebay. I think I am gonna get some Verdi-Care and experiment with a coin that's not as good. I just wanna see if I can get rid of the raised corrosion and it's fun to learn.
