Check out this ebay listing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...280823209954For the Buy It Now Price of $299.99 : Quote: 100 ~ MIX OF AUTHENTIC MORGAN & PEACE SILVER DOLLARS FIVE ROLLS!
100 SILVER DOLLARS ~ 1 PRICE !
FREE SHIPPING !
SEE MY STORE & LISTINGS FOR MORE DOLLARS!
These Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars are circulated, a nice way to collect 90% silver.
A wonderful way to collect and invest!
*ONE HUNDRED Silver Dollars
*FAST shipping, I have these in stock and ready to be mailed. $3 a piece? Could he have misplaced a decimal point? I figured, "What the hell? Even if they're fake I can add them to my black cabinet for that price." Sure enough, where their ebay name is "chucknorris152" and it says he's from the United Kingdom, his PayPal email is from http://www.163.com/ (a Chinese search and news site) and his name is 刘果 (Liu Guo). Suspicious. I called PayPal and ebay to make sure there was something on record, but all I can do is sit and wait 40 days to see if the goods are legit. If they're not, I'm covered (under the protection plan) and they're in trouble. In the meantime, I won't keep my hopes up. :-)

Run away as fast as you can, nothing good will come from bidding on that spurious auction. Notice that the seller has not had any feedback since 2009 and now there have been almost 40 sales on Feb 8th alone of these "too good to be true" lots, that is a strong indicator of a hijacked account and the sale of fake or nonexistent coins.

I wish you luck. I can see where it would be tempting to take a gamble on it. You know the old saying though "if it sounds to good to be true."

This same exact auction (including the picture) has been listed time and time again. Each time, it is from a seller who hasn't sold anything in years and it is clear that somebody is hacking old accounts. Each time the auction eventually gets shut down.

Oh -- and you're either going to get nothing or get a bunch of Chinese fakes...

I did some research, and as said above this is a recurring listing on ebay. They usually appear on hijacked accounts. You may receive chinese fakes, but my guess is you get nothing at all. You will then have to go through all the hassle of getting your money back. If you haven't already pulled the trigger walk, no run away as fast as you can.

@barryg Do you have any links to those other examples? I'm documenting the entire ordeal so that there's something for ebay to go on and people to Google. To tell the truth I'll be much more sorely disappointed if I get nothing rather than a pile of fakes. Fakes I can at least document for my own studies, and for $3 a pop, that's a "steal" for a fake. ;-) Usually when I obtain fakes for study, its from people who paid full price for them and were shocked and dismayed when they took them in for appraisal. One of the local coin shops gets a lot of people in from flea markets convinced they've found an overlooked treasure... and a lot of people with "Chinese cousins" (as he puts it). :-)

This same auction has been posted many times before. I think they sold over 100 lots the last time before the auction was shut down... I would avoid because I'm almost positive you are going to receive not even fake coins, but nothing at all.

I'll need links and examples if I am to report this successfully, though. Does anyone have any? :-)

There's a saying among grifters "You can't con an honest man". That con artist is specifically looking for a mark who is trying to put something over on somebody else down the line. Hoping they will be too afraid to come after them, because the mark themself had dirty hands going in.
That auction would hardly raise an eyebrow if it went after the average guy with a line like "I found these in the back of a cabinet in my apartment. The pawnshop said they would give me $20 ea for them, so if you will give me $25 ea then we both win."

Just do a search on this site for "100 Peace dollars" and it will come up several times.

The auction should be shut down fairly quickly, as soon as the first person doesn't receive anything (maybe sooner)and reports it. Just google it, and you will see where this exact and very similar listings have appeared multiple times on ebay. By different sellers of course. As long as there are people out there that will fall for this type of thing they will continue to appear. I've never understood how these types of listings have success, and have always wondered what ppl are thinking when they bid on/buy them. Ask yourself, why would a legitimate person selling legitimate silver dollars sell them for three dollars a piece when they are worth ten times that? If you are for some reason studying fake/counterfeit/chinese Morgan dollars buy them off ebay from a seller that sells them as such. Sorry, was typing this when you added that the listing has been removed. Glad to see it gone, good work.

I usually wouldn't "fall" for such a scheme, except that I do have an active interest in identifying and documenting counterfeits, so I was figuring it was "win win" for me. I didn't even anticipate a third "no show" option.
I also guess that most of the other buyers were in the "perhaps he put the decimal point in the wrong place" camp. :-)

I see what you are saying. I hope you get your money back quickly. You should have it back within 7 days or so I think.
