I havent been collecting very long and spotted this a little while ago. Is this what you call a die crack ? It kinda looks like a blob of copper on top of the arrows. Oregon coin geek.....*** GO BEAVS ! ! ! ***

Hmmm, I'm not an expert on this, but it looks too blobby to be a dies crack, but I don't know much about errors.

Thanks guys, I've been experimenting with my USB microscope trying to get decent pics and just happened to notice it. It wouldn't come off, lol. It's on one of my skanky pennies....

From the glossary:
die crack A raised, irregular line on a coin, ranging from very fine to very large, some quite irregular. These result when a hairline break occurs in a die.
Note to texfischer: " ... it looks too blobby to be a die crack ..." I believe that, as the crack grows in size due to repeated striking, the amount of metal forced onto the design grows proportionately.
Yes, I think that it is a die crack.
Not to be confused with a "die chip", which is not yet listed in the glossary. I'll get to work on a definition right away. A "die chip" results in a "blob" on a coin.

Thanks Moe....I just call em that if they don't make my album. I've never sold anything before but I put it on ebay just to see what it will go for. Should be interesting.

I think the bloby part by the middle arrow is a die break.

Quote: BiggFredd: Definitely a die on crack. Then a Die on LSD must be a waffle coin (Yeah I know the waffle isn't from the die itself, but it sure is groovy). I love die cracks on coins, a lot of times they mean extra money for me if I resell to the right person! My favorite two series have a lot of them, the 2¢ pieces and Morgan dollars, the 2¢ because the dies were used until they literally broke apart and the Morgans due to the number of coins they needed to produce, again using the dies beyond their life expectancy.

It's an experiment by me to see if better pics of the same coin bought on ebay can bring a better price. So far no bids.
