I'm trying to date this 1 Mon coin from Japan, but I can't match the markings up with anything online.

Can anyone give me the emperor during the minting of the coin or something more detailed?

Nothing. No visible markings at all.

It looks like this coin though:
Kanei-Tsuho Variety Tan-Fu-Ei

Is it a match? The photos aren't that big on that site, so it is hard to compare, since the characters and details are so small.

It looks similar to this one too:

I honestly can't tell. I emailed the blogger for his opinions.
I just want to date the coin...

I emailed the guy, and he identified it as Edo period Tokugawa Shogunate. It is 1 Mon.

It is difficult to ID these coins because it often comes down to minor changes in calligraphy.

I have edited your picture to show some details that are not consistently the same on all coins, so may lead to a definitive ID. The most important is the bottom 'feet' of the 9 o'clock character. They are both hooked rather than straight lines.

If I'm reading my book right, there are only four possibilities.

Catalog #4.165 and 4.166 are listed as: Kameido, Edo, Musashi province 1737-1739.
Catalog #4.167 and 4.168 are listed as: Kawajiri-mura, Akita, Dewa Province, 1738-1750.

All of them are listed with a rarity of 'very common'.

I think 4.167 is the best fit, but I am a novice so take that with a lump of salt. I would love for a more experienced collector to chime in.

The book and catalog #s are from David Hartill's Early Japanese Coins.
