I have a large Penny dated 1857 in XF to AU condition.
The Obverse is "Bank of Upper Canada" 1857 and St George on horseback slaying a dragon.
The reverse is "Bank Token, One Penny" with a Crown over an anchor
and 2 cornucopias.
I would appreciate any info and potential value.

Thanks

To Coin Community, Sea321,

You have a 'Upper Canada one Penny Bank Token'

We would have to see a pic so, we can give you a grade and evaluation.

Upper Canada is now Ontario. Your Token was made by the Bank of Toronto.

I think I have one just like this. Here is the info in the 6th edition of the Standard Catalog of world coins 1801-1900:

KM# Tn3 PENNY Copper Obv.: St. George slaying the dragon Obv. Leg.: BANK OF
UPPER CANADA Rev.: Bank arms Note: 4 varieties exist in "2" of 1852

1857 VG 4.50 F 7.00 VF 11.50 XF --- Unc 140

KM# Tn3a PENNY Bronze Issuer: Bank of Upper Canada Obv.: St. George slaying the
dragon Rev.: Bank arms

1857 VG --- F --- VF --- XF --- Unc ---

I guess the question is, is it in copper or bronze ?

Relatively common, around a $10 retail.

In 1850 as banker to the government of The Province of Canada, the Bank of Upper Canada was authorized to issue copper tokens. They issued penny and half-penny tokens for 1850,'52,'54 and '57.The 1850 issue and part of the 1852 were minted by The Royal Mint, with the rest being minted by the Heaton mint.In 1858 The Province of Canada adopted and issued decimal currency, bought the unissued tokens from the Bank of Upper Canada in 1863,and closed their account with the bank in 1864.In 1866 the Bank of Upper Canada failed.
