welcome to the forum. I have a book titled kings, rulers and statesmen that was printed in 1967. it lists rulers and has photos of the coins they are on. if you can,t find one , you are more than welcome to have this copy. I have no use for it and need the room. I was wondering when someone would build a set around that subject. 446 pages.

Stalin was not the head of Czechoslovakia. Monarch is talking about countries putting their current non-royal leaders on coins.

ECUADOR -- who is on coins from 1924 and 1928 -- 5 and 10 cs

I'm pretty sure it is Simon Bolivar (who was obviously not the ruler of Ecuador at that time)

Perhaps the 300 Guaranies 1968 from Paraguay with Alfredo Stroessner should make the list. However, I am not sure if they had widespread circulation (I know a few did).

Almost all countries have their founders and presidents on their coins. Looks like you have a long way to go!

USA- Roosevelt, Kennedy, Eisenhower

surprisingly not in your list.

And you may add 1 silver TL has Ismet Inonu on it to your list. It's a rare piece. He is the second president and the co-founder of Turkiye Cumhuriyeti.

Thanks apeka, I put the president Mustafa İsmet İnönü on my list. About other presidents you mentioded, on my list is only the presidents who have circulated coins when they are in presidency. No coins with dead presidents and presidents who were not in power at the time of minting coins.

Oh, you will have a lot then !
Are you looking at circulating commemorative issues as well ? Or coins with the current president / dictator when it was made ?

You mentioned "No coins with dead presidents and presidents who were not in power at the time of minting coins." - which for France for example excludes the commemorative 1 franc with "De Gaulles" on it - done 30 years after he stopped being president (but not the war-era aluminium one with Petain on it)

This 5 francs 1941 is great coin, very expensive.
But that coin never realased into circulation. I found this story about that coin:It is known that more than 13 million pieces were struck, but they were never released as the Germans forbid it: they needed the nickel for their war industry. At the end of the war, in 1944, the German troups moved the whole mintage to Berlin to be remelted. he transport was done by river boat. The boat was hit by a allied bombardment while being on Belgian waters. It sunk and before the coins could be salvaged from the wreck by the German authorities, 2 sacks containing about 50,000 coins were taken out of the river by local inhabitants. As all the other coins have been remelted, these were the only surviving coins of this type.

I do not know whether to put or not the coin on the list, because that coin never realased into circulation. Like the Mozambique coins set from 1975 which all remain in East Germany and never reached Mozambique.

Samora Moisés Machel (September 29, 1933 -- October 19, 1986) was a Mozambican military commander, revolutionary socialist leader and eventual President of Mozambique. Machel led the country from independence in 1975 until his death in 1986, when his presidential aircraft crashed in mountainous terrain where the borders of Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa converge.

Hmm so you should better edit your topic as presidents/dictators minted coins with their own portraits on it. Then you can add only this two coins for Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to your collection.

http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces20845.html

At his era, Turkey was using 3 kind of currency at the same time.
1st. Ottoman coins and banknotes.
2nd. Coins minted before 1928 letters revolution.
3rd. Coins minted with latin alphabets.

And btw the second presidents name is Ismet Inonu. Not Mustafa. :D

Another option would be Józef Piłsudski who died in 1935. He was depicted on a few Polish (commemorative and circulation) coins in 1934.
