I bought an XF 21 Peace dollar (slabbed) which is noted as stained. I got it relatively cheap and thought I might see if I could remove the stain with Acetone. Can coins actually be permanently stained with little ability to remove?

Unfortunately, yes. If acetone won't do it, xylene might. But it may just be better left alone. Have any pics? People here might have had such a stain, and be able to help.

The reason is that even TPGS's make mistakes. Hard to believe but there are only people working there. You could have a toned, stained, tarnished, corroded, rusted, burnt, etc. coin. Or maybe just dirty. A photo sure would help or at least help a little. IF the so called stain is into the metal of the coin and not just on the metal, removing it would take off that metal. Again, need a decent photo.

My apologies on not having provided a photo. I will try to get a quick photo this evening and get it posted.

Quote: Where's the photo? I'm thinking it won't be forthcoming, given that this was posted almost nine months ago. Now for my question: Why did you do this?

SsuperDdave, What do you mean? I just want to see if it is possible for me to see the photo of the coin. Just for my visual reference, because I have the same problem coin. I reckon, it wouldn't hurt to try asking. I am a visual person and it would really help me if I can see the photo.

malikot, please post a photo of your coin. Probably be best to start a new thread in regards to it.
