I'm not really a boy for copper, but the toning on this had me dancing, I have a few like this, also a few unc. Photos may not show much but in hand the tone around the edges are amazing.

Lets let the peppers and bananas dance

when I was a boy, the 1964 pennies had unusual tonings right from the start.
They didn't circulate much, as they were withdrawn early in 1966.

The oe thing that amazes me about copper is that you can have Australian copper coins from 1911 still with amazing lustre on them. Mind you many European & U.S coins from hundreds of years ago can still be found with lustre. I know that it will always amaze me.

Copper is by far my favourite coin metal because of the so many different and unique ways it can tone.

just a technicalpoint:
Australian coins were bronze, not copper.
Copper has its qualities, but bronze is less reactive to the environment.
The British switched from copper to bronze in the 1850s; about 60 years after the french.

You could go even further and call it copper alloy or further still "alpha bronze"

I suppose we call them copper because they look copperish and 97% of the coin is copper..maybe..who know's

It's just copper with a couple of impurities in it.
Should be called Stirling Copper

Ausjack, I've got a big copper (or do we now call it 'bronze'?) tub exactly the same. I'll thank the mother-in-law for that one.
