Here is one of my favorite postcolonial 8 reales - from the short lived republic of central america. This republic lasted from 1823 till 1838, and contained Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. For those looking for more informations - here we are : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federa...tral_America

The coin you're currently using for your avatar is my example, from 1826.

I'm not sure I can use a picture of mine as avatar, that's the one I chose when registering here. I found it beautifull then - and still do :) Yours looks close to an high AU - did you posted a big picture here a while ago ?

I know this post is old but I missed adding my 1/2 real's worth so here is my 1848 CR JB 1/2 real image. I used to work on die studies of the silver coins of The Republic. I still have the research and the coins.

Can you post the other side ? The edge of the coin is pretty strange .

I love the anthropomrphized ssun: can't recall seeing that on a coin before. Great piece of history: thankyou. Does any such mountain range exist ? Is there any significance to the tree ?

Here is one from my collection, this one dated 1826. I also find this design to be outstanding and enjoy looking at these coins when they show up in dealers cases.

Those coins are beautiful indeed :) The small half real is the first one I see (well, I did never hunt for one, so ...) - it's impressive how they managed to fit everything in this small design !
