I just bought 2 sets of Kennedy halves from my friend, and while going through them, I looked at this 1968D and it appears that there is a die crack, or some type of extra metal in the D?

Any help would be appreciated.

It might be coin contact or a post broke off the die. The image is so small where the mint mark is shown. But I'm leaning on the first theory. When a post breaks off it leave the entire mint mark area in the center unformed.

Looks to me like something has hit the bottom of the mintmark pushing it up.
