Has anyone bought one of these? (please post pics). Are they worth getting? Or are they over priced. If you buy one will it lose it's value?

Do you mean the Fine Silver Proof set? If yes, then they are a very nice pieces; some of the nicest coins I've ever seen. The gold on the dollar is a significant improvement over the regular silver dollar though I'm not a huge fan of the actual design. IMHO, the star of the set is the penny. It really has to be seen to be appreciated. I can't say if it will appreciate or depreciate. If I knew that, I'd be a whole lot richer . It is likely over priced (as were many other RCM products that are now valued even higher in the secondary market) and I think 20,000 is a relatively high mintage for a special edition. But, it is now on sell out watch so consumer appeal is obviously there. That could indicate future value.

I agree the prices could go up. But I rather get some maples or even the fine and proof silver dollars from the set

Bullion and NCLT are separate in my mind. I buy NCLT for appeal not as an investment.
That said, I will make one other comment. The 1911-2011 special edition set looks as good to me as the 2012 - I like the large penny in that set too. The presentation is better and the mintage was only 6000. There is no gold though and no twoonie.
The 1911-2011 set was issued for $180 and has appreciated but it can be found currently on at least one dealer site for less than the 2012. It may have more upside in terms of long term appreciation.

I buy for appeal and investment. I'm not looking for the set to go up $100 I'm price, but I don't want it too lose it's value. I have a few silver dollars from the mint that I would like to get.

Based on the selling price, I can understand your hesitancy. I've purchased the set and agree with CC-Ottawa that the coins in the set are VERY nice and that the selectively gold-plated dollar and one cent pieces are the "stars" of the set. Will the set increase in value? I think the set has a good chance to show and maintain an increase in value over the long-term due to ongoing collector demand. On the flip side, I believe the Proof and BU versions of the 1812-2012 silver dollars will gradually trend toward their bullion value which may often be below their original issue price. (This is the pattern for all of the annual "standard" silver commemorative dollars.) Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Canada's silver dollar commemorative set (I've got a complete BU/Proof/Gold-Plated set) and encourage folks to collect them. I do so, however, with the caveat that they should collect them to celebrate the Canadian history they represent and the simple joy of collecting -- not as a long-term investment that will show significant price appreciation. PS: I don't have any pictures/images that are better than what is up on the RCM's website.

That commens, I'm want to go and buy it, but then I don't. I'm leaning towards getting it. And also I'm getting it as a graduation gift, so technically I'm not paying for it, but I also don't want my parents to waste money on this set

It would be a very nice gift from your parents. I'm sure if they see you enjoying the set, they will never think its purchase was a waste of their money.
Enjoy your collecting!

I was hesitant about buying this set but decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. I received them last week and they are spectacular ! Some of the most beautiful coins I have seen or had. I especially like the 2 dollar and the penny. I am glad I bought the set. When my grandson finally gets them they should have gone up in value IMHO
I do agree that they are overpriced, but if you want them you have to pay the price to get them or do without and hope the secondary market will knock down the price, but I don't think that will happen, I would never sell my set for less than I paid for them, some people in an emergency may though.
