I ran across a website today that has blown my mind. It is called Numista (numista.com) and it has almost every country and coin listed there with mintage figures. It also includes composition for the coins. The website keeps track of the number of types and countries you have, too

Another great feature is that you can view your collection as an interactive world map. Just mouse over a country and it will tell you how many coins you have from there. In addition, each country is color coded based on how many coins you have from there. I highly recommend this site if you are not using it already.

I forgot to mention that it is a free service. Also, the only downside is that you can not add pictures of your coins. It just lists them for you. You can download a format that works for MS Excel I believe (if you ever want to put your collection onto Excel).

I'd like to second the nomination that this is a great site for cataloging one's coins.
I added one coin to their list: a 1/4 Koula from Tonga.
I do not have a working scanner at present, so I went to
gcoins.net , In Russian and in English.
Thanks to their generosity I was allowed to post their picture
with the proper attribution.
I find numista to be a great way to organize a lifetime of accumulation of foreign coins.
And their world map is a joy to watch.

Edit:
You can add a coin which has not already been listed.
Also, you are allowed to correct the details.
I found a mistake in the spelling of a Cuban coin:
"PARTIA" instead of "PATRIA."
The moderators approved the change quickly and it now appears.

also use it, FANTASTIC site.

being able to search by size/weight/composition makes ID'ing oriental and middle east coins a breeze.

the only thing I dont like is that if you type in a search term with even 1 letter wrong it kicks back no results (picky I know, but I am used to google sorting out my type-o's and thinking for me!)

I also use Numista to keep track of my coins. The interface is a breeze to use, love that they have up-to-date melt values for all coins.

I have often used it for reference on mintage numbers and composition of coins. But maybe I am just paranoid, I just don't know about listing all of the coins I own on a website. I do not know who has access to the site and that info? When you register what type of personally identifying info are you giving?. And who owns the info on my coin collection? (many sites become "owners" of all data uploaded to their servers)
I would appreciate any feedback on this, I have thought of using the site to keep track of things, but I am nervous about the whole privacy issue.
