Why not put Abe Lincoln on the half and dump the 1 cent coin. then we can finish of our Kennedy sets and start on our Abe half sets Don't throw rocks at me , it is only an idea

Kennedy halves are my favorite US coin, so I'd be sad to see it discontinued entirely. Perhaps a good compromise would be to discontinue the "business" strikes at Philadelphia and Denver and just make the proof versions every year. That having been said, I love the idea of a PT-109 reverse for 2014!

I think the Kennedy half wll be around for quite a while yet, as it should be. Look at how long we've had the Lincoln Cent, and the Roosevelt dime. I agree that a 50 year commemorative set would be a nice thing. I vote for one coin from each mint, that's P,D, S, and W and a reverse proof. The P and D could be proof clads. The S and the W could be burnished and proof silver, and the reverse proof would be in silver as well. That would make 3 of the coins available only in the set. To me this sounds like something the mint would agree to do. They don't seem like they are open to really different ideas in their sets. Keep the obverse the same for the set, but it could change after that.

POOR TASTE ALERT: How about a 50th Anniversary series, a new reverse released every month for the whole year. Each reverse would feature a person or entity suspected of responsibility for his assassination.

But seriously, and while asking forgiveness for my bad joke, I've always wondered why we have no bimetal coins in the US, and why all bimetals have round inserts. So, how about something really wild like a bimetal Kennedy in which the profile of the President is made of a different metal. IE a silver insert. That'll get you your 40% silver content back too.

How about a 22 or 24k GOLD Kennedy half? The design would be the same except the date would be 1964-2014. Then after that, as another poster suggested, only mint the Kennedy halves in silver and clad proofs.
