In just 2 short years we will be celebrating 50 years of Kennedy halves. What would y'all like to see to commemorate this anniversary? I'd like to see a 90% silver half offered in uncirculated and proof strikes (in a special set together <--added in for clarity). Edited by VetStudent 03/01/2012 8:21 pm

They do 90% proofs already. I would think a four coin set would be cool. Do all four proofs... clad, 40%, 90% and 90% satin proof in a set. Would be a cool way to commemorate the series. Or heck, take the lead of the ASE 25th set and do five coins and add a reverse proof.

The Reverse Proof might look pretty sweet! Does anyone have the photo-shopping skills to give us an artists illustration?

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought "reverse proof" so I think you'd have at least 3 supporters on that one. :)

I say we put the Apollo 11 reverse on it which would have been much more fitting in the first place. :)

Oh, great. Something else that I have to discern fact from fiction. That is exactly why collectors should not support that kind of thing. Just sayin.

unholyroller, I was meaning a special set that would have just those two halves in the classic 90% silver. But I love the other ideas. I'm a sucker for reverse proof and other special finishes.

hermanwilliams, I don't get what your saying....do you think that we shouldn't be able to toss around ideas for future series/commemoratives?

Bringing back that Walker makes total sense.....would make a nice sub-denomination coin partner to the ASE. With the popularity of silver it would be a great choice to retire the Kennedy and move it over to the bullion department as the Walker. Of course mint it in .999 fine silver. 15.5 grams wouldn't make it terribly much bigger than a current half. In fact at .999 fine I would think it would be barely noticeable the size difference. By my best guess if a half were made in .999 silver it would weigh 13.9 grams.....1.6 grams more silver....just make it a bit thicker .

I agree with the retirement. 50 years - a great run. Now let's put art back into our coinage beginning with a 2016 100 year anniversary set. You all know what the designs will be. All in favor?

Instead of a side on portrait of Kennedy, have him dancing!
