Nice pickup....I am new to Ikes and am just starting. Just so my memory is clear, it is the type 2 that is the rarest correct?

The type 2 was made for two months (March and August). The type 3 is more common than the type 2 but less common than the type 1.

Although in my experience (looking through stacks of Ikes I've found at banks), it's much easier to find a nice looking type 3 than a nice looking type 1, even though the 3 aren't quite as common.

Yeah, a type 2 would have been even better, but this was a unexpected bonus.

Nice find! It was only dumb luck that I have both the variety 1 and variety 3 in my Eisenhower dollar album. I put four duplicates at the end of the album to fill it out. One of them was another 1972. When I learned about the three 1972 varieties (after joining CCF), I checked my two and found the primary one (in the actual 1972 hole) was a variety 3, while the duplicate at the end of the album was a variety 1.

jbuck, years ago I had no clue about the varieties either. Had I not got active on boards I may not know now. Tis why I love this place. And that T3 is in the second extra hole. the first is awaiting a T2.

I know I learned about them here, but I think I would have eventually noticed them once I bought a newer Red Book. I am not sure when they were added, but they are recognized varieties now. I know they are listed in my 2009 and 2011 red books (I have a 2007, acquired right when I joined CCF, but I loaned it out to a friend). My next "newest" Red Book is 2000 (yes, 2000) and they are not listed in it.
